About
Beside the Nantes to Brest canal, the old Cramezeul lock keeper’s house offers a stopover you choose for its simplicity. La Cueilleuse limits its area to six bivouac pitches, where walkers and cyclists can pitch their own tent for one night in the garden of a lively lock keeper’s house. A small cabin can also provide shelter, depending on availability. Dry toilets, drinking water, a shelter and a solar shower cover the basic needs of a stopover. Pay what you like, a guinguette and a bakehouse, open on their own schedules, give the place a friendly, community feel. With only six bivouac places, La Cueilleuse mainly welcomes travellers passing through. The small capacity keeps the atmosphere peaceful but makes arriving without notice riskier, especially on fine spring and summer weekends. The lock, the waterway, the towpaths and the surrounding fields create a river landscape very different from the coast. The garden and its large lime tree make a fine setting for a car-free evening. La Cueilleuse holds the Accueil Vélo label and sits right on the canal routes. The lock keeper’s house also hosts a guinguette, a bakehouse and cultural events at certain times of year, each with its own opening days. Standard parking is about 500 metres from the lock keeper’s house, with the last stretch on foot. Car access to the lock is possible for people with reduced mobility. The next day, the towpath invites you to continue towards Nort-sur-Erdre or the neighbouring locks.
