About

A few steps from Place de la République, the Fine Arts Museum and the Parliament of Brittany, the Balthazar Hôtel & Spa is one of central Rennes’ great hotels. Rated 5 stars and part of Accor’s MGallery collection, it combines the service of an upmarket hotel with the more intimate atmosphere of a town house. The Balthazar was created in 2013 from two fully renovated historic buildings. The interior design plays on warm materials, contemporary furniture, bookcases, lighting effects and a planted inner patio. Despite its very central location, the atmosphere stays hushed, like a break in the heart of the city. Atout France lists 56 rooms for a total capacity of 112 people. Classic rooms start at around 24 m², Superior rooms on the patio side are 26 m² and Deluxe rooms 29 m². A 35 m² Deluxe Junior Suite has a 25 m² private, tree-lined terrace. Several apartment suites about 50 metres from the hotel, in the same street with a separate entrance, complete the offer. They have a fitted kitchen, a lounge and one or two bedrooms; some are over 50 m². The Nuxe Spa is one of the main attractions. It has a sensory pool with hydromassage jets and a counter-current swimming area, steam baths, a sauna, an ice fountain and an experience shower. Five treatment rooms, including two doubles, are available for treatments and massages. The spa is for over-16s only; the currently published hours are 9 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday and 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday. La Table de Balthazar completes the experience with contemporary cooking by Benjamin Jourdren. The chef favours Breton produce and local suppliers, with more ambitious cooking in the evening. The restaurant is listed in the MICHELIN Guide for modern cuisine. Le Balthazar bar extends the hotel’s atmosphere with a library and patio setting. Open every day, it serves cocktails, champagne, tapas and hot drinks. The Balthazar suits a couple’s stay, a business trip or a wellness break in central Rennes.
