About
La Criée, the central market of Rennes, also known as the Halles Centrales, is the city’s “belly”. This covered market occupies a listed early 20th-century building on Place Honoré-Commeurec, at the crossing of two main roads, with a car park in the city centre. Around thirty traders sell fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, poultry, cheese, charcuterie, groceries, bread, galettes and flowers. You can find Jean-Yves Bordier’s butters and the Coucou de Rennes, an emblematic hen saved from extinction. La Criée is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm, until 7.30 pm on Fridays, and on Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm. On the first Sunday of the month, except in January and August, the “Marché à manger” brings together local producers and restaurateurs from 11 am, with dishes for under €8. On the first Saturday of the month, a flea market sets up all around the covered market. After the market, you can visit the Musée de Bretagne in Rennes, about 700 m away, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, about 1 km away.
