About
The Merville covered market is Lorient’s covered market. Its stalls are open all year round, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 7 am to 1 pm. Built in 1964 on a former air-raid shelter, it forms a ring of metal and concrete with a colourful façade. The fishmongers take centre stage, with local catches: hake, monkfish, lobster, langoustines and other seafood. The building has been under renovation since April 2024. In the meantime, the traders have moved into temporary halls a few metres away. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, an open-air market (food, flowers, clothes) is added around the covered market. After the market, you can visit the Pointe du Talud in Ploemeur, about 18 minutes by car (11 km), and Pont-Scorff, about 20 minutes by car (14 km). By the sea, Port-Maria beach, in Larmor-Plage, is about 10 minutes by car (5.7 km), and Toulhars beach about 10 minutes by car (5.7 km).
