About
The high granite cliffs of Houat extend the Quiberon peninsula. The village huddles above the fishing harbour; the coast is exceptionally beautiful and the flora very rich. From the landing stage, the coastal path follows the more sheltered north coast, between heathland and meadows. At Beg-er-Vachif, the islets of Guric and Séniz, linked to the island at low tide, are home to gulls, shags and oystercatchers. The wild, unspoilt south coast, between cliffs and coves, is unique in the Morbihan, with views of Belle-Île, Hœdic and the Île aux Chevaux. The dunes and beaches of Treac’h-er-Goured and Treac’h-Salus form one of the finest dunes in Brittany, where the sea daffodil grows. The Er-Yoc’h islet is home to a colony of Manx shearwaters, very rare in France. The loop is 15.9 km long; allow about 3 h 30 of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: the Saint-Gildas harbour, the Houat landing stage. The official route, published by Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
