About
Since 2010, the Flore S645 submarine has been installed at the former submarine base in Lorient. It is one of the four submarines open to the public in France: you go aboard to discover the life of its crew. The Keroman base, built by the German army during the Second World War, put Lorient at the heart of the Battle of the Atlantic. The largest military fortress in Europe, it was then used by the French Navy, as the home of the Atlantic submarine squadron until 1997. The visit lasts 1 h 15, in groups of 35 people at most, with several departures a day. A museum and guides’ podcasts extend the visit, and special evenings are sometimes organised, such as a murder party for Halloween.
