About

The Château de Bienassis lies in the countryside of Erquy, not far from the coast. The estate is the result of several building campaigns between the late Middle Ages and the early modern period and belongs to the history of the great noble families of Penthièvre. It is instantly recognisable by its Erquy pink sandstone, its moats and its courtyard. The facades combine a defensive character with Renaissance features. The furnished rooms are a reminder that it is still a lived-in home. The visit usually takes in part of the interiors, the courtyard, the park and the gardens. The appeal lies as much in the domestic details as in the monumental features: fireplaces, furniture, the chapel, the outbuildings and views over the water. Bienassis is open seasonally, with a reduced public season after the summer: check the exact opening days before you go.
