About
The Château de Ranrouët was born in the Middle Ages amid marshes and forests. It was gradually strengthened by the lords of Assérac and went through several building campaigns that adapted its defences to changes in warfare. The towers, curtain walls, moats and the remains of the living quarters show how the fortress was transformed up to the early modern period. Its ruined state makes the different phases of masonry particularly easy to read. The interpretation trail is complemented by guided tours, exhibitions, shows and activities for children. The basic visit is fairly short, but the events can easily make it longer. In 2026, the castle is open from 4 April to 31 October, with seasonal opening hours, and closes from 1 November.
