About
In every season, the coast from Pont-Mahé to Pen-Bé remains wild, mysterious and powerful. Along the reef, the scents of the heath mix with those of the sea, and the cries of the birds with the voice of the ocean. At the end of the bay, the little Pen-Bé peninsula, swept by wind and waves, is home to those known as the farmers of the sea, at work all year round. The power of the coast then gives way to the calm of the salt pans, where egrets search for food until the end of winter, then to that of the farmland, where cows graze under the oaks. The route passes the Baie des Dames and Pont-Mahé beach. The loop is 22.3 km long; allow about 5 h 35 of walking. The stated level is difficult. Start: the point marked on the map, in Assérac. The waymarking is yellow. The official route, published by the Loire-Atlantique département, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
