About
The Hôtel de la Marine holds a special place on the island of Groix. At 7 rue du Général de Gaulle, in the town centre, it is about 700 metres’ walk from Port-Tudy, where the ferries from Lorient arrive. The hotel was fully renovated in 2021 and 2022 after several years of closure, with contemporary decor inspired by maritime Art Deco, by Jaillon Studio. Rated 3 stars, the hotel has 20 bright rooms for one to four people. Four rooms are on the ground floor and sixteen are served by a lift. One room is adapted for people with reduced mobility. Depending on the category, the view is of the Atlantic, the town or the garden, with sizes from an 11 m² single room to a 40 m² Deluxe family room. The Single Sea View room is a rare and attractive option for solo travellers. With 11 m², a 100 x 200 cm bed, a walk-in shower and a sea view, it lets you enjoy the hotel without paying for a double. Classic Sea View rooms are about 16 m², with a 160 x 200 cm bed. Classic town-side rooms are more generous, around 18 to 20 m², and some can connect. Superior Sea View rooms offer about 18 to 22 m² and add bathrobes on arrival. The Deluxe rooms with terrace extend the experience outdoors, while the Triple Sea View rooms and the 40 m² Deluxe Family room suit families and small groups. The Deluxe Family room has a double bed and two single beds. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, a Smart TV, a private bathroom and, depending on the category, a hospitality tray. A safe is available at reception. A cot can be booked free of charge, subject to availability. Twin beds are possible in some categories for a €10 supplement. The hotel’s real standout is its wellness area. On the garden side, there is an outdoor lap pool of 14 by 3 metres, heated to about 29 °C all year. A sauna, a hammam and a massage chair complete the area. For hotel guests, access is unlimited and included with the room, within the area’s opening hours. The beach and the main walking routes of Groix are easy to reach from the town. The island is best explored on foot and by bike, between the Pointe des Chats, Pen Men, the Grands Sables, the Sables Rouges and the small villages. The hotel team can suggest visits and help organise some activities. The La Marine restaurant works alongside the hotel. It serves bistronomic island cooking based on local, seasonal produce. The lounge bar is one of the heart of the house, with a breakfast buffet in the morning, drinks and cocktails during the day and a terrace in fine weather. The breakfast buffet costs €16 for adults and €8 for children aged 4 to 12. It is served from 8.30 am to 10 am. The lounge bar is open from 11 am to 9 pm. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out until 11 am. Pets are accepted on request, with a €30 cleaning supplement. Parking is free. For families, the cot is free on booking. The hotel also has a meeting room and can offer special conditions for groups booking more than five rooms. For a stay on Groix, this hotel particularly suits two kinds of traveller: those who want to explore the island on foot or by bike while keeping a high level of comfort, and those looking for a relaxing island weekend. The heated pool, sauna and hammam come into their own after a hike or a day of cycling.
