About
Locmaria beach lies in the south of the island of Groix, right in the heart of the village of Locmaria. Facing due south at the back of a bay, it is more sheltered than the island’s most exposed beaches. At low tide, the foreshore opens wide and is good for walking and shore fishing. At high tide, swimming is closer. In 2026, Locmaria was one of Groix’s three lifeguarded beaches, from 6 July to 31 August, every afternoon from 1 pm to 7 pm. The tourist office also mentions a Hippocampe chair. Kayak hire lets you explore along the coast. Locmaria offers a rare mix on an island: a family beach, village services, water sports and a very local atmosphere.
