About

La Govelle is one of the best-known surf spots on the Guérande peninsula. Nestled among the rocks of the Côte Sauvage, near Le Pouliguen, it combines fine sand, rocks, waves, shore fishing and the coastal path. Municipal rules set out two lifeguarded swimming areas and, between them, a zone reserved for board sports. The markers are adjusted every day by the head lifeguard according to the swell, the weather, the tide, the exposed rocks and the staff on duty. This flexibility matters: the shape of the beach changes a lot with the tide, and an area that is safe in the morning may move during the day. La Govelle is also a year-round surf spot, used by beginners and experienced surfers, with local schools and equipment hire. At low tide, the rocky foreshore is excellent for shore fishing. The 2026 water monitoring ran from 10 June to 15 September and confirmed a lifeguarded, equipped site, closed to animals, with showers, drinking water, toilets, a first-aid post and wheelchair access. Recent water quality results are excellent.
