About
In the heart of the Montagnes Noires, in Spézet, this rugged trail links peat bogs and rocky ridges. Much of it is shared with the Grand Tour des Montagnes Noires. From Roc’h ar Werc’hez, you head down the GR 38 to a bread oven, then towards the peat bogs; an alternative route via the Roc’h ar Kozh spur gives a view over the bog basin. The path reaches the ruined mills of Meilh Du and Meilh Gudel, then climbs through the woods to the Comtesse bench, which overlooks the wooded hollow. Further on, the slate workers’ path leads to the Roc’h ar Barn viewpoint, above the village of Plas Gwenn. The loop is 12.8 km long; allow about 3 h 10 of walking. Start: Roc’h ar Werc’hez, on the Kudel road, in Spézet. The waymarking is blue; part of the route follows the GR 38. The official route, published by the Haute Cornouaille community of communes, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone. Part of the route is closed from late October to late February, during the hunting season.
