About

Much more than an aquarium, Océanopolis tells the story of the ocean through its animals, its ecosystems and scientific research. The visit ideally begins with the new Tropical Pavilion, reopened on 4 July 2026 after a complete transformation, then continues in the Brittany Pavilion to understand the riches of the Iroise Sea and the coast. The Otter Trail, Océanolab and the activities extend the discovery, while the Cité des Océanautes gives children an interactive space included in the visit. Allow at least 3 h 30, more if you follow several activities or have lunch on site. The Austral Pavilion, formerly the Polar Pavilion, remains closed during the Métamorphose works and is due to reopen in early 2027.

What you will see

  • The new Tropical Pavilion, reopened on 4 July 2026, with a redesigned route around tropical biodiversity, reefs and the role of sharks.
  • The Brittany Pavilion, to explore the ecosystems of the Iroise Sea, from the shore to the deep sea.
  • The Otter Trail and its outdoor spaces, a much loved break between the pavilions.
  • The Cité des Océanautes, a fun, interactive space for children, open without any extra booking.
  • Océanolab and the science activities, to see how research helps understand and protect the ocean.
  • A real half-day outing, easy to fit into a stay in Brest even when the weather is uncertain.

Tips on the spot

  • Buy a dated, timed ticket online: at busy times, it is the only way to be sure of getting in at your chosen slot.
  • Allow at least 3 h 30 and check the activities programme before you start, to plan your route around the ones that interest you.
  • For a quieter visit in summer, come at opening time, on a sunny day or at the weekend; rainy days between 10 am and 4 pm are often the busiest.
  • Start with the Tropical Pavilion, continue with the Brittany Pavilion, then keep the otters, Océanolab and the Cité des Océanautes for the second half.
  • Have lunch before noon or after 2 pm to avoid the rush. Leaving the park is final, so choose where you will eat before going in.
