About
The Hôtel Barrière L’Hermitage stands at 5 esplanade Lucien Barrière, right facing La Baule’s main beach. Built in 1926 on the initiative of François André, it celebrates its centenary in 2026 and remains one of the resort’s most iconic hotels. Rated 5 stars, L’Hermitage has 200 rooms and suites. The spaces have been modernised while keeping a classic seaside identity, in blue, beige and white tones inspired by the ocean, the sand and La Baule’s villas. The range starts with Superior Rooms of about 25 m², with views of the town, villas, pines or marshes. Superior Sea Rooms offer the same size with a view of the bay or the ocean. Deluxe Rooms are about 30 m², in town or sea versions. Prestige Rooms are also around 30 m² and can take an extra bed, useful for some family set-ups. The Prestige Sea Terrace Room is one of the most appealing categories: about 46 m² with a terrace of about 30 m² facing the ocean. Prestige Sea Suites offer about 52 m², with a hall, bedroom, separate lounge and bathroom. Connecting configurations sleep four or five people, such as two connecting Superior Rooms of about 62 m² in total or two connecting Prestige Sea Rooms of about 69 m². The Presidential Suite, with a terrace and a view of the bay, is the top of the range. Rooms have, depending on category, air conditioning, a minibar, a coffee or tea machine, Guerlain toiletries and many concierge services. Dining is built around several addresses. Ciro’s La Baule focuses on seafood in a setting facing the Atlantic. Le Pavillon offers French cuisine and grills in a more family-friendly setting, with a terrace and garden. Le Bar de L’Hermitage completes the offer with cocktails and a lounge atmosphere. Room service is available 24 hours a day, according to the official FAQ. The Augustinus Bader Spa is another pillar of the experience, with treatments, massages and wellness areas. The hotel has an indoor pool heated to 28 °C all year and an outdoor pool heated from April to October, both open every day from 8 am to 8 pm according to the current official page. A sauna, hammam and fitness area complete the facilities. The resort also offers golf, tennis, horse riding and water sports. Bikes can be borrowed, and guests can use various Barrière facilities in La Baule depending on their package. The family offer is particularly developed. Le Studio by Petit VIP mainly welcomes children aged 4 to 12, while the Teen’s Camp is for 13 to 17-year-olds. Some Barrière communications also mention solutions from 3 months with Babiwi or babysitting, depending on the period and conditions. There are many connecting rooms, and the baby cot or extra bed is free up to age 12 according to the official FAQ; over 12, a supplement of €80 is announced. Pets are allowed for a supplement currently announced at €50 per animal. Dogs must be kept on a lead in public areas and are not allowed in the restaurants, bars, spa, fitness area or Kid’s Club, except assistance dogs. Parking is paid, but a free valet service is offered to hotel guests, and charging points for electric vehicles are available. The hotel is wheelchair accessible; book specific needs directly. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out until noon; late check-out can be requested, subject to availability. La Baule-Escoublac station is about fifteen minutes’ walk away, according to the hotel; Paris is about three hours by train and Nantes about fifty minutes. L’Hermitage suits families as much as couples or events. Its real difference is the scale of the resort: the beach in front of the hotel, restaurants, spa, pools, kids’ clubs, golf, tennis, casino and concierge services. In 2026, its centenary adds to its heritage dimension: figures such as Edith Piaf, Sacha Guitry and Maurice Chevalier have contributed to its legend over the century.
