About
The Saint-François covered market is the only covered market in Quimper and the best known in the city. It opened in 1847, on the site of the former Saint-François convent, in the heart of the historic centre, beside the Steïr. The stalls offer local produce and regional specialities, and several counters serve food to eat in or take away. Locals and visitors mingle there all day. The covered market opens every day, very early on weekdays: Tuesday to Thursday from 5.30 am to 8 pm, Friday from 5 am (5.30 am in winter), Saturday from 4.30 am. On Mondays, it opens from 7 am (7.30 am in winter) to 7.30 pm, and on Sundays from 7 am (7.30 am in winter) to 1 pm. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the big open-air market sets up all around, along the Steïr. After the market, you can visit the Musée Bigouden in Pont-l’Abbé, about 21 minutes by car (20 km), and Locronan, about 22 minutes by car (18 km).
