About
A true institution, the Talensac market is the best-known and busiest in Nantes. It occupies the historic halls overlooking Place Talensac, right in the city centre. About 150 regular traders practise some fifty trades here: fishmongers, oyster farmers, butchers, poulterers, cheesemongers, market gardeners, bakers, caterers, world food, florists, and even craftspeople and clothes sellers. Many are producers from Brittany, the Vendée, the Loire valley and the Nantes area. The market is open every morning except Monday: Tuesday to Friday from 8 am to 1 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 1.30 pm. When a Monday is a public holiday, it still opens. On Saturdays and Sundays, it is the big meeting point for the people of Nantes: it is best to come early to enjoy the stalls before the crowds. After the market, you can visit the Musée d’Arts de Nantes, about 4 minutes by car (1.5 km), and the Musée Dobrée in Nantes, about 6 minutes by car (1.8 km).
