About
Every Wednesday and Saturday, from 8 am to 1.30 pm, the big Vannes open-air market sets up on Place des Lices and in the neighbouring streets, right in the historic centre. Place des Lices was laid out in the 14th century. The Dukes of Brittany held jousts and tournaments there, a short walk from their residence. It is now lined with half-timbered houses, a few metres from the ramparts and their gardens. The market complements the town’s two covered markets: the Halle des Lices, on the same square, and the fish hall, on Place de la Poissonnerie. On market days, you can easily go from one to the other. After the market, you can visit Vannes Intra-Muros, about 600 m away, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Vannes, La Cohue, about 1 km away.
