About
La Baule beach is not a single beach but one of the great seaside landscapes of the Atlantic. The bay stretches about nine kilometres between Pornichet and Le Pouliguen and belongs to the Most Beautiful Bays in the World network. Facing south, it is relatively sheltered from strong westerly swells by the headlands that frame the bay. The beach is divided into several sections, including Benoît, De Gaulle, Saumur and Lajarrige, each with different lifeguard stations, water sports, clubs, restaurants and facilities. The 2026 health monitoring confirms several lifeguarded, equipped sites with showers, drinking water, toilets, lifeguard stations and wheelchair access, with, for example, an excellent historical rating for the Benoît and Général de Gaulle sections. Dogs are not allowed from 15 June to 15 September, even on a lead. Every year, the town levels and rebalances the sand before the season. At low tide, the water can be very far from the seafront, while at high tide swimming is much more immediate.
