About
Between the Loire estuary and the ocean, Saint-Nazaire has some twenty beaches. This trail links the harbour, the seafront and the seaside districts. The Havane district recalls the transatlantic lines that sailed to the West Indies and Mexico: several streets have kept their late 19th-century houses and villas, built by shipyard engineers, wealthy merchants or Loire pilots, near the Jardin des Plantes. Further on, the Bois de Porcé and the Océanis gardens offer cool greenery a short walk from the beach. The route passes near the Aiguillon lighthouse and Villès-Martin beach. The loop is 13.7 km long; allow about 4 hours of walking. The stated level is medium. Start: the point marked on the map, in Saint-Nazaire. The waymarking is yellow. The official route, published by the Loire-Atlantique département, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
