About
Saint-Dégan, in Brec’h, packs in a varied historic and natural heritage: the Tréauray valley and the Loc’h river, a village of thatched cottages, the Saint-Quirin chapel and its spring, and a heritage orchard. At the start, the Saint-Dégan ecomuseum brings the daily life of the old Auray area back to life, in a 17th century thatched cottage and a 19th century longhouse. The trail follows an old Roman road. A detour leads to the 17th century Saint-Quirin chapel, whose tufa and marble altarpiece is considered one of the finest in the Morbihan, then to its spring, reputed for healing, and the Roman bridge of Kerfroud. The way back follows the Loc’h and skirts the heritage orchard, a protected natural area that preserves more than 200 Breton fruit varieties. The loop is 9.6 km long; allow about 2 h 15 of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: the ecomuseum car park, rue Park-Segal, in Saint-Dégan (Brec’h). The waymarking is yellow. The official route, published by Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
