About

The Le Vieux Châtel municipal campsite is in Combourg, a Petite Cité de Caractère, Station Verte and cycling destination, near the Lac Tranquille. The Château de Combourg, which overlooks the medieval town, is reflected in this lake, named by Chateaubriand in his Mémoires d’outre-tombe. A charming family campsite, it has 49 pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans in a rural setting, and rents out recent mobile homes. Saint-Malo, Dinard and Mont-Saint-Michel are less than half an hour away. Combourg is a good base for exploring Upper Brittany. The castle, where Chateaubriand spent his childhood, is open to visitors. The town keeps its old houses, and the walk around the lake is lovely. Nearby, you can visit Mont-Dol, about 24 minutes by car (24 km), and Bazouges-la-Pérouse, about 25 minutes by car (20 km).
