About
The Château de Fougères rises in the Nançon valley, at the foot of the upper town. Its position on the Marches of Brittany explains the scale of its defences and the many episodes of war that marked its history. The complex combines several walled enclosures, towers and defensive works built or strengthened between the 12th and 15th centuries. The route helps you understand how military techniques evolved. The visit uses scenographic displays and an audio guide, or guided tours depending on the period. The ramparts, the towers and the views over the medieval quarter make the story very tangible. The castle is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 pm to 5.30 pm. Full price is €12, with a combined ticket available with La Coursive.
