About

The Anse de Kerguelen is one of the most complete beaches around Lorient. It lines a fine sandy beach about 1.5 km long and is part of the Parc Océanique de Kerguelen, an 82-hectare protected natural site under the care of the Conservatoire du littoral. The park brings together dunes, heathland, woodland, meadows, freshwater and brackish marshes and rich birdlife: about 130 bird species have been recorded in local environmental documents. The beach is also a major water sports venue thanks to Kerguelen Sport Océan. Sea walking, aqua aerobics, paddleboarding, freediving, open-water swimming and land activities complete the offer. The town announces SNSM lifeguards in July and August and wheelchair access. In 2026, official water monitoring described the site as lifeguarded, equipped, wheelchair accessible, closed to animals and with a first-aid post, but without showers, drinking water or toilets at the listed point. Recent water quality has been excellent. In 2026, dogs were banned from 10 am to 6 am the next day and only tolerated from 6 am to 10 am on wet sand at low tide, except rescue, guide and assistance dogs.
