About
Kerné-Uhel is said to be the most secret lake in the Côtes-d’Armor. Some find it has a look of Ireland, or even Canada. The water is clear, slightly tinged with red, over a golden bed from which granite boulders emerge here and there. A 117 hectare protected area, managed by the Office national des forêts, surrounds the lake: grey herons, mallards and bats thrive there. The loop is 11.9 km long, with 239 m of ascent; allow about 3 hours of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: the Penn ar Hoat water sports centre, in Peumerit-Quintin. The official route, published by the Côtes-d’Armor département and updated on 11 September 2026, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
