About
This trail follows the route that the people of Saint-Colomban still took to reach the centre of Carnac in the early 20th century. You set off from the 17th century Saint-Cornély church, one of the finest Renaissance buildings in the Morbihan. The view opens onto the Anse du Pô, Carnac’s old harbour that became the cradle of oyster farming. In the village of Saint-Colomban, the Flamboyant Gothic chapel has wall paintings of English galleons. The clifftop path leads to Saint-Colomban beach, with its very fine sand, where two chimneys stand, the remains of a forge. From the point, the view over the bay and the Quiberon peninsula is exceptional. The way back passes Port-en-Dro, a former fishing port, and the Croix des Émigrés, a reminder of the royalist landing of 1795. The loop is 9.6 km long; allow about 2 h 15 of walking. The stated level is medium. Start: Place Saint-Cornély, in front of the Carnac tourist office. The waymarking is yellow. The official route, published by Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
