About
This route explores part of the Carnac stone rows, one of the most extraordinary megalithic sites in the world. From the town centre you reach the Museum of Prehistory, then the Saint-Michel tumulus: more than 125 m long, 60 m wide and 10 m high, built in the 5th millennium BC. Its chapel and viewpoint indicator offer a panorama from Quiberon to the Gulf of Morbihan, with Belle-Île and Houat. Via Cloucarnac you reach the Kermario stone rows, more than 1,200 menhirs in 10 lines, and the Ménec rows, 1,236 menhirs in 11 lines, before returning past the Audran cross and the Saint-Michel spring. The loop is 7.4 km long; allow about 1 h 45 of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: Place Saint-Cornély, in Carnac. The waymarking is yellow. The official route, published by Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone.
