About
The first Taureau fort was built in the 16th century at the initiative of the people of Morlaix, to protect the bay against attacks from the sea. It then came under royal control and was extensively transformed in the 17th and 18th centuries. Work carried out in the spirit of bastioned fortification gave the monument its current layout. Casemates, courtyard, batteries, terraces and passages are all shaped by the narrowness of the islet. The visit begins with a boat crossing from the coast. Arriving by sea is an essential part of the experience. On site, time is set by the boat rotations, but it is enough to explore the main areas and the views over the bay. Departures are seasonal and depend on the tides and the weather. Always check the day’s ticket office: a crossing can be changed or cancelled.
