About
Overlooking Kelenn beach, Nicolas Carro offers precise starred cuisine at the Hôtel de Carantec, open to the bay of Morlaix. The chef showcases small fishing boats, Léon market gardeners and Breton livestock farmers, in a panoramic dining room that links the gastronomic experience directly to the seascape. The restaurant overlooks Kelenn beach with wide views over the bay. This position explains much of the atmosphere: the light changes with the clouds, tides and time of day, while the islets draw a very recognisable Carantec panorama. It is not just a hotel dining room; the view really accompanies the meal. For a celebration, ask for your preferred table without assuming a front-row seat will be free. Originally from Brittany, Nicolas Carro came back after demanding experience, notably with Olivier Nasti in Alsace. He took over this house, previously linked to Patrick Jeffroy, and quickly imposed his own reading of the region. Precise cooking, bold sauces and the balance between finesse and indulgence structure his dishes. The bay favours fish from small boats, shellfish and crustaceans, but the chef does not limit Brittany to seafood: Léon vegetables and meat from local farms also have their place. This variety avoids a uniform tasting and reveals several sides of the region. Nicolas Carro looks for clear plates, with rigorous cooking and textures that support the produce. Documented examples have paired sardine with tangy condiments, vegetables with emulsified butter, or fish with miso notes. These are not a permanent menu: some courses change completely as the produce changes. The official website lists several experiences. Inspiration offers a shorter format at some services; Découverte and Expression are longer menus. The number of courses, choices and drink pairings vary with the option and the day: do not assume a short lunch menu is available every evening or all summer. Book by naming the menu you want. The Hôtel de Carantec has fourteen rooms, turning a starred dinner into a complete getaway: after a long menu, waking up facing the bay is more restful than driving late at night. Rooms are booked separately from the restaurant. A walk to the Pointe de Pen al Lann or Kelenn beach is a natural extension. The Château du Taureau and Île Callot are among the area’s symbols, but access depends on boat trips and the tide. Lunch leaves time for sightseeing, while dinner suits a short walk facing the bay.
