Most Breton Christmas markets open between 20 and 28 November and close between Christmas and New Year’s Day. They are smaller than in Alsace, but you will find what makes a Breton Christmas: hot cider, crêpes, sausage galettes, and the region’s craftspeople, potters, embroiderers and biscuit makers.

Saint-Malo, Lorient, Dinan and Locronan had not yet published their 2026 dates at the time of writing. As a guide, the Saint-Malo market, around thirty chalets on the Esplanade Saint-Vincent at the foot of the ramparts, opened in late November last year, and the Locronan illuminations were switched on from mid December until the first days of January.
Nantes, the largest market in the west
The chalets stretch from Place Royale to Place du Commerce, open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 9:30pm, and until 8pm on Sunday. On 24 December, the market closes at 6pm. On the Esplanade Feydeau, L’Autre Marché brings together producers, craftspeople and publishers from the region in its blue chalets.
Rennes, two markets for one Christmas
The market on the Mail François-Mitterrand, along the Vilaine, opens first, on 21 November. The Christmas village then sets up in front of the Parliament of Brittany, the most beautiful setting in the city when its façade is lit up. On Saturday morning, the Lices market rounds off the tour with its oysters and festive poultry.
