About
Gueltas is the Breton name of Saint Gildas, who is said to have come to recharge in the Branguily forest. With its ponds and peat bogs, the site is a treasure trove of nature. The forest, owned by the Rohan family from the 13th century until 1802, covers 450 hectares of oak and pine woods, home to roe deer and wild boar, with protected plants such as floating water plantain. The ponds make up 22 hectares of wetland, rich in dragonflies, butterflies, amphibians and birds. From the hide you can see great crested grebes, pochards and coots. The loop is 6 km long; allow about 1 h 30 of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: the Branguily forest, on the D125, in Gueltas. The official route, published by Pontivy Communauté, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone. The route is listed in the département’s official walking route plan (PDIPR).
