About
Guern, whose name means marsh or alder grove, spreads over hilly ground between the Sarre and Blavet valleys. The granite houses of the village centre surround the church and the former presbytery. The Notre-Dame de Quelven chapel, a “cathedral of the fields” built from the 15th century, has a bell tower rising to 70 m; in front of its spring stand three columns from an old shelter. The trail passes the Kerroch spring and wash house, the village of Locrio with its thatched roofs and no chapel, then the old Roman road from Carhaix to Vannes. The loop is 21 km long; allow about 5 h 15 of walking. The stated level is moderate. Start: the church in Guern. The official route, published by Pontivy Communauté, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone. The route is listed in the département’s official walking route plan (PDIPR).
