About
Around the Quelven stream, in Guern, this heritage trail crosses a lush valley where some fifty plants have been recorded. Pilgrims and local people once used it. The 15th century Notre-Dame de Quelven chapel, a major pilgrimage site on the way to Compostela, is complemented by the Scala Sancta, a double staircase built in 1738 for the crowds of the great pardon. Panels on the wildlife and plants line the “museum stream”, which once powered a mill. The schoolchildren’s path, lined with standing stones and low walls, leads to the old wash house and the 16th century Quelven spring. The loop is 2.4 km long; allow about 35 minutes of walking. The stated level is easy. Start: the Quelven chapel, in Guern. The official route, published by Pontivy Communauté, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone. The route is listed in the département’s official walking route plan (PDIPR).
