What to do in Brest when it rains

Océanopolis, the castle and the Musée de la Marine, the Ateliers des Capucins by cable car, and Warhol in Landerneau: our ideas for a rainy day in Brest.

5 min read

In Brest, rain is part of the landscape, and the city has learned to live with it: its major sights are under cover, and you move from one to the next by tram or cable car.

Océanopolis

The ocean park needs at least half a day. Its tropical pavilion reopened in July 2026, fully redone; the polar pavilion is still under renovation in 2026, so check whether it has reopened before you come.

The castle and the Capucins

The castle, which guards the mouth of the Penfeld, houses the Musée national de la Marine. The cable car then crosses the river to the Ateliers des Capucins, former arsenal workshops turned into a huge covered hall, open to all.

Warhol in Landerneau

Twenty minutes away, the Fonds Hélène et Édouard Leclerc presents a major Andy Warhol retrospective until 24 January 2027, in the former Capuchin convent in Landerneau.
