What to do in Saint-Malo when it rains

The Grand Aquarium, the cathedral and the corsairs’ houses, the sea spa, and the ramparts in a storm: our ideas for a rainy day in Saint-Malo.

Saint-Malo in the rain has a charm postcards never show: the sea swells against the ramparts, the lanes of the walled city empty, and the crêperies fill up.

The Grand Aquarium

Saint-Malo’s big indoor visit, and the safe bet with children: allow one to three hours depending on the activities.

The walled city in bad weather

The Cathédrale Saint-Vincent and its stained glass, the corsairs’ houses, the shops and cafés inside the walls can all be enjoyed under cover. When the shower passes, go up on the ramparts: in a westerly wind, the waves pound the Sillon sea wall, a sight to watch from a distance.

The sea spa

Facing the Sillon beach, the Thermes Marins also welcome day visitors: heated seawater pools and treatments, enough to turn a rainy day into a day of rest.
