About
Every Thursday morning, Pont-l’Abbé hosts the biggest market in the Pays Bigouden. The stalls set up on Place de la République and Place Gambetta, right in the town centre. Pont-l’Abbé is the capital of the Pays Bigouden, at the far end of the estuary of the river of the same name. The Thursday market is the big event of the week for the whole of south-west Finistère. The town also has its covered market, open almost every day. In July and August, an art craft market is added on Thursday mornings, and from July to December the Quélourdec farm market is held on the road to Saint-Jean-Trolimon, from 4 pm to 7 pm. After the market, you can visit Quimper and its cathedral, about 19 minutes by car (19 km), and the Eckmühl lighthouse in Penmarc’h, about 20 minutes by car (15 km). By the sea, Sillon beach (the Grande Plage of Île-Tudy) is about 14 minutes by car (9.8 km).
