About
From the south shore of the Guerlédan lake, panoramic views open onto a drowned valley: building the dam in 1930 flooded 17 locks on the Nantes to Brest canal. The 15th century church in Saint-Aignan keeps two 16th century carved altarpieces, one of which bears the finest Tree of Jesse in the area. The Électrothèque, a museum of electricity, tells the story of how the dam was built. After the Saint-Trémeur spring, you reach the dam: 45 m high, 206 m long, holding 55 million m³ of water over 400 hectares. The Sainte-Tréphine chapel, from 1897, offers a fine panorama, before the Pouldu wood and the view over the Sordan cove. The loop is 13 km long; allow about 3 h 15 of walking. The stated level is demanding. Start: the church car park in Saint-Aignan. The official route, published by Pontivy Communauté, is shown on the map and can be downloaded as a GPX file to follow on your phone. The route is listed in the département’s official walking route plan (PDIPR).
