For two
A romantic weekend in Brittany
Two days, one base, and places to visit as a couple: villages, viewpoints and cabins, without spending the day in the car.
6 min read
A weekend means one base and a thirty kilometre radius. The temptation is to see everything; the mistake is to give in to it and spend Saturday on a country road. Better one coast, two or three places, and time to linger.
The best season is the late season. In September and October, the light is low, the sea has kept its summer warmth, the terraces are still open and the hotels have room. The same places without the crowds are not the same places.
Where to base yourself
| Base | From Paris | The 30 km radius |
|---|---|---|
| Saint-Malo | 2 hours 30 by train | Cancale, Dinard, Dinan, the Pointe du Grouin |
| Dinan | 3 hours | The Rance, Saint-Malo, Cap Fréhel |
| Vannes | 2 hours 30 | The Gulf, Carnac, the Île aux Moines |
| Quimper | 3 hours 30 | Locronan, Bénodet, Concarneau |
| Perros-Guirec | 4 hours | The pink granite, Tréguier, Bréhat |
The first three can be reached by train without a car, which changes a weekend: you arrive on Friday evening, have dinner on the spot, and the hire car is only needed on Saturday.

A Sunday morning market, a last walk on the customs officers’ path, and the road. It is the simplest programme, and the one you regret least: starting a museum visit at eleven when you leave at three spoils both.
