10 romantic hotels in Brittany for autumn

Castelbrac, Sainte-Barbe, L’Agapa, Castel Clara: ten romantic hotels in Brittany for autumn, facing the sea, with a spa or in a real castle.

8 min read

Autumn is the season for lovers in Brittany. The beaches empty, the light turns low, the sea rises, and you rediscover the pleasure of a warm room after a walk in the wind. The grand hotels, packed in summer, become quiet houses again, often cheaper too. Here are ten addresses where one night is enough to make a memory: four facing the sea, three for the spa, two castles and a city break.

Facing the sea, for the view

Castelbrac, in Dinard. A former villa on the cliff road, looking out over the Baie du Prieuré and the ramparts of Saint-Malo. The five star hotel has only 23 rooms and suites, and all of them face the sea. Its lap pool, heated to around 28 °C, runs alongside the water: you can swim here in October with sailing boats on the horizon.

Sainte-Barbe, in Le Conquet. At the far end of Finistère, on the headland above the harbour where the boats leave for Ouessant, this four star MGallery boutique hotel lines up 34 rooms behind large bay windows, all facing the Iroise Sea. The spa’s hot tub looks out to the open sea: in rough weather, it is quite a show.

L’Agapa, in Perros-Guirec. One of the few five star addresses on the Pink Granite Coast, with 45 rooms in three buildings. Its 400 m² spa has a pool, sauna, hammam and hot tub, and two hours of access are included per night, to be booked before you arrive. Le Bélouga restaurant opens onto the Sept-Îles bay, and the pink rocks of Ploumanac’h are a few minutes away.

Le Nessay, in Saint-Briac-sur-Mer. A castle on its own peninsula, with the sea on every side. Its 17 rooms and suites are spread between the castle, the gatehouses and two small houses facing the sea. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it hides a small spa with a sauna you can book for two.

Spa and thalassotherapy, to let yourself go

Castel Clara, on Belle-Île-en-Mer. On the wild coast, above the Anse de Goulphar, close to the Port-Coton needles painted by Monet. About eight rooms out of ten, among the 66, look out to the ocean. The 1,200 m² thalassotherapy centre uses seawater, with a heated counter current pool. Arriving by boat from Quiberon is already part of the trip.

Domaine de Rochevilaine, in Billiers. A group of old houses on a rocky peninsula at the mouth of the Vilaine, entered through a medieval gateway. This Relais & Châteaux with 34 rooms and suites has a marine spa of around 1,300 m², with a heated pool, saunas and a hammam. In the evening, chef Maxime Nouail’s table gives pride of place to lobster and local fish.

Brittany & Spa, in Roscoff. A stone manor house facing the Île de Batz, extended by a contemporary wing looking over the bay. This Relais & Châteaux has 29 rooms and suites and a marine spa. Its restaurant, Nori, led by Loïc Le Bail, holds a Michelin star: a dinner for two that alone justifies the trip.

Castles and grand estates

Domaine de Locguénolé, in Kervignac. A castle, a manor house and their outbuildings in a large wooded park on the banks of the Blavet, near Lorient. Rated five stars since 2025 and a member of Relais & Châteaux, the estate has 46 rooms and suites. The spa is set in the former stables, around an indoor pool. L’Inattendu, the restaurant of chef Yann Maget, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, holds a Michelin star.

Les Garennes, in Clohars-Fouesnant. A 19th century castle in its park, above the Odet, a few minutes from Bénodet. With only 15 rooms, the four star hotel stays discreet. Its spa has an indoor pool, sauna, hammam and whirlpool bath. There is no fine dining on site: dine in Bénodet, then come back to the calm.

The two castles

In the city, a weekend without a car

Balthazar, in Rennes. Two old buildings in the city centre combined into a five star MGallery hotel, a stone’s throw from the Parliament of Brittany. Some of its 56 rooms look onto a green patio, and the Nuxe spa hides a sensory pool. The ideal address for arriving by train, strolling the half timbered streets and dining on site at La Table du Balthazar.

The two Michelin starred restaurants in this selection

Brittany does not need summer to charm. An equinox tide on the rocks, an almost deserted coastal path, a log fire on your return: autumn is often when couples make their best memories.
